Mike graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1995, where he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications, and a double major in journalism and political science. He was also inducted into the prestigious academic fraternity Phi Beta Kappa in 1994. Mike was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity while attending UTK. Mike graduated from the University of Tennessee college of Law in 1998, where he received recognition for outstanding achievement in the course of trial Practice in 1997, was a member of the Moot Court Board from 1996-1997, and received the Gunn, Odgen and Sullivan Award for brief writing in 1997. He was also one of three members of the Dean Jerome Price National Evidence Team that placed as national runner-up in Brooklyn, New York in 1997.
Before attending college in Knoxville, Mike grew up in West Tennessee and attended McKenzie High School in Carroll County, Tennessee, where the majority of his family still resides. He moved to the Upper Cumberlands following his graduation from law school in 1998, and to Cookeville in 1999 where he has resided since with his wife, Trish Giaimo (formerly Netherton), who was born and raised in Cookeville, Tennessee. Mike first practiced law in Livingston, Tennessee, where he was a partner in the law firm of Daniels & Giaimo from 1998 until 2007. In 2007, he moved his practice to his adopted hometown of Cookeville to become a partner in the law firm of Chaffin, Chaffin & Giaimo, where he currently practices.
Mike practices in almost every area of the law, but places a special emphasis on trial litigation. He regularly handles cases in both the state and federal court system in the following areas: criminal defense, personal injury, worker’s compensation, child custody and divorce, property and real estate issues, wills and estates, civil rights, employment discrimination, business transactions, appellate law, and various other areas of the law.
Mike is admitted to practice law in the state courts of Tennessee, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is also a member of the CJA Panel for federal criminal defense attorneys in the Middle District of Tennessee. He is, or has been, a member of the American Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Federal Bar Association.
